Subcutaneous Monoclonal Antibody Treatment for COVID-19: Available Now
Norland Avenue Pharmacy now offers subcutaneous monoclonal antibody treatments to eligible patients. According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), monoclonal antibody treatments have proven to reduce viral levels and improve symptoms in non-hospitalized COVID patients. Monoclonal antibodies developed to treat COVID-19 target the spike protein, which corona-virus (SARS-CoV-2) uses to enter the host cells. By binding to the spike protein, a monoclonal antibody can help prevent the virus from infecting human cells.
Monoclonal antibody treatment involves four injections in the stomach, thighs, or arms and should be received within ten days of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis for best results. Eligible patients must be over 65 years old or 12 or older and have at least one risk factor. Risk factors include being overweight, diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, or lung disease like asthma or COPD. Monoclonal antibody treatment is also authorized for post-exposure prevention of COVID-19 in individuals who are not fully vaccinated or who are not expected to mount an adequate immune response to complete vaccination. Patients must be monitored for an hour after the injections, so the whole process takes about an hour and a half.
Interested patients should click the link below to complete the Self-Screening Patient Intake Form. Once your completed form has been received, one of our staff members will contact you to schedule an appointment.
